I was mightily impressed at the Autumn SVR steam gala to see notices requesting those with trackside passes [and therefore 'hiviz' jackets] stay away from those areas where ordiinary members of the public would be taking their photos. This is a particular problem when trying to get a shot of a train approaching a station such as Bewdley and Hampton Loade facing south and some pillock in an orange vest sets up 100 yards down the line. Worst example was a guy who tried to set up on the trackside just in front of the viewing gallery at Highley Engine House! Fortunately the volley of abuse persuaded him to move on.

I have noticed it isnt just trainspotterrs who are selfish, I hate it when members of the public get in your way on purpose when you are trying to take photographs such as the few cases I had when visiting London on monday

Not to mention tossers who stand 2 deep on the narrow footbridges on the SVR and then complain when they get barged in to. It's a bridge for passing over. Am I supposed to introduce a train staff for single line working over it so they can all stand and take the same picture? Why should it take 5 minutes to force one's way over a bridge designed as an access way.

Speaking as a general bystander not a photographer (not interested - others can do that for us to view later !) - there be an absolute arrogance to many 'Piccy takers' - everyone else be in THEIR way ! Even when THEY are blocking the way !! They be little more than 'Pi**y takers' !!!

Consider this marvellous new triple decker viewing platform. Or is it a bridge. Personally, I would be taking a sharp stick if I was seeking to cross the next/first time a steam special passes by.
