    Oh, here there and anywhere
I was visiting relatives this weekend for the first time in many months and the first by train in ages. As a trainee driver I was hoping to see the semaphore signals at Seaham so I could finally make sense of them but they have been replaced by LED's. When the fudge did this happen????

Not long ago, almost exactly a year ago I think. It was in the news in January, here for instance:

and I linked to an article in the Rail Engineer online magazine here:

Now controlled from either Ryhope Grange or Norton. Dawdon crossing box has also gone, with Seaham due to go when the foot crossing is transferred over to one of the other boxes.

Ryhope controls as far as Greatham( box still open), Billingham still has semi's on the down Sunderland and Norton on tees box both roads.
what I'm trying to figure out is Sunderland -Ryhope signals are (RG plated sig no's) controlled by Ryhope yet south to Greatham box the prefix is NS still controlled by Ryhope as Norton south which uses NS aswell.

The Rail Engineer article I linked to earlier explains this. They reckon the local layout at Ryhope Grange is still controlled by the lever frame, so is still labelled RG, and all the brand new stuff south of the box is labelled for the route, so NS = Northallerton to Sunderland.

Keep forgetting about Greatham when I go past - not much else there as well apart from the signal box.

On an aside, lots of work going on with the bridge over the Tees between Stockton and Thornaby - looks as if the track that has been sitting there for a while doing nowt is going in.

Have they not finished the underpass at Seaham yet? I moved from there in July and it didnt look too far away from being done...

Don't think they have yet - think the crossing was still in use when I went past the other day.

Isn't great that when a church sees the chance to grab some cash they get their nose straight into the trough?
To the OP - I understand that the bracket signal from Seaham station went to Kirkby Stephen East ie a good home.
