Ok, but my point was the fact that 'there is not lots of capacity on the BML' was followed by suggesting another service, although I understand what you are saying :)

Surely the best way of relieving the BML is to reinstate Uckfield - Lewes and run some Eastbourne/Newhaven trains that way.

If you ran a half-hourly fast as a portion of East Grinstead trains, add a bay at Uckfield for an hourly stopper and redouble in certain places, you wouldn't need to find any additional paths into London.

That's an interesting one. I don't think it would work. We had a discussion here. I got pretty depressed...

Whilst idont think there are any serious plans about uckfield to Lewes there are plans for that region. Thameslink currently have pathing rights to places including Eastbourne, grinnie and Horsham but for various reasons don't run them...yet. Platforms are currentlymbeing lengthened for the 12 car Thames ink fleet on the grinnie line-sanderstead, upper warlingham and oxted are all complete and commissioned but the power needs updating before more than 8 can run and the signals need an upgrade to allow extra trains. The idea is that when they run 24 or however many trains an hour through city TL they can't all run on the BML so will need other places to go due to capacity.

As questioned earlierin the thread the reason southern run long distance services into Vic off peak is because vic is the main terminus of the Brighton line. London bridge is purely a commuter station for suburban services. To ease congestion at interchanges such as east Croydon they run limited coastal services in the peak.

I am told that over 100% of the track is used in the peak on that region which is why there are so often delays and it seems to be getting worse with extra services such as London overground etc.

Reinstate a Stranraer to London Euston and vice versa service that would connect with the ferries at Stranraer(albeit Cairnryan from the autumn and with a shuttle bus providing a connection)

Why no re-instate the railway to Cairnryan in that case...

Surely that'll cause a problem when the old firm play each other? Both sets of fans at the same ferry port???

I'd like the Waterloo - Exeter St Davids services to be extended to Plymouth and Paignton once again, because at the moment anyone who wants to go to stations beyond Exeter St Davids has to change onto a crowded Pacer. I'm not sure where the extra rolling stock would come from to allow for these service extensions though.

Perhaps I should have said with a shuttle bus connecting with the trains at Stranraer and taking them to Cairnryan!

IF SWT paid network rail to extend the 3rd rail from redbridge/eastleigh to Salisbury via romsey you could easily order some new desiro's to displace the class 158/159 used by SWT on the following:

Salisbury - Portsmouth Hbr
Salisbury - Romsey-Southampton-Estleigh-Romsey
Brockenhurst to Lymington pier

in total i recon you could free up to 8 units
