Aberafon in Glamorgan is located in and lends its name to the Paliamentary constituency of Aberavon. Aberavon is considered one of the safest seats for the Parliamentary Labour Party.
Similarly, a very safe seat for the Conservative Party is Wokingham.

The local semi-professional football club is AFC Sudbury, which was formed in 1999 by the merger of Sudbury Town and Sudbury Wanderers, the process giving rise to the name Amalgamated Football Club Sudbury. They are currently members of the Isthmian League North Division and play at the King's Marsh Stadium in the Ballingdon-Brundon area of Sudbury.

One of their opponents in that division are Bowers & Pitsea Football Club, who play at the Len Salmon Stadium,

In the classic 1972 BBC adaptation of the M.R. James ghost story A Warning to the Curious, Wells-next-the-Sea was used as the filming location to represent the fictional coastal town of Seaburgh.
In James's original short story, Seaburgh was based on the Suffolk settlement of Aldeburgh.
