Until takeover by a local competitor in 1967, Massey Brothers was a well-regarded coachbuilder, producing buses for many municipal undertakings at their works in Pemberton.
Another company well known for the quality of its classic British buses was C.H. Roe, whose factory was located in the Leeds district of Cross Gates.

The opening shots of the TV series Band of Brothers was shot in Upottery, but the majority of the early scenes were filmed at Hambleden in Buckinghamshire.

Half of the first transatlantic telegraph cable was manufactured in Gateshead. The other half was made in Greenwich.

Wimborne, like Stoke on Trent, has a minster church

There are about twenty villages with the name "Winterbourne" or Winterborne" distributed around the chalk country of south and west England (mainly Dorset and Wiltshire) but Winterbourne House and Gardens are in Edgbaston, owned by the University of Birmingham. The reason for the name association in that location is unclear.

Sir George Everest, after whom the mountain was named, may have been born in Crickhowell, or may have been born in Greenwich.
