Department of "mickey-taking city nicknames" -- Aberdeen is sometimes called "Furryboots City". This, from the rather individual variation on the English(?) language, current in north-eastern Scotland; in which the friendly enquiry "whereabouts do you come from?", is approximately "Farrabouts air ye fae?" Far to the south: Birkenhead is quite often called "the one-eyed city": this uncomplimentary nickname bestowed largely by the people of its larger, better-known, and generally more glamorous twin on the other side of the Mersey, Liverpool -- implying that Birkenhead is a rather poor, feeble, boring, deprived backwoods kind of place -- for sure, a considerable inferiority complex on Birkenhead's part, re that lot across the water.
