7802 "Bradley Manor" ran on the mainline in the early 2000's so that might have been. I'm not sure when TPWS became compulsary.
The SVR wiki page for 7802 says that it was last used on the main line in 2007 ‘before OTMR became compulsory’, so presumably it would have been TPWS-fitted, with that system predating OTMR. The TPWS kit may well have been removed at some point since it was withdrawn from the mainline, especially as it's currently receiving it’s second major overhaul since then.

Definitely removed during the overhaul that saw it back in service for 2015.

It was 2007, before OTMR was required for main line running which was effectively the end of SVR involvement on steam on the main line.

Along with 34027 & 2968 it had TPWS but the OTMR introduction was considered a step to far.

My bad, I was thinking about 6990 Witherslack Hall.
That’s not ran on the mainline at all.

The SVR have announced a winter steam galaon the 6th and 7th of January 2024, the following locos will be in operation at the event:
•S160 2253 Omaha – following its appearance at the Autumn Steam Gala
•LMS 2968 – first appearance following overhaul
•GWR 7812 Erlestoke Manor – back at the Severn Valley Railway
•LMS 43106 – last appearance before the expiry of its boiler certificate
•SR 21C127 Taw Valley – last appearance before work on the locomotive commences
The timetable will be confirmed at a later date however the ticketing is as follows:
•1 Day adult rover £32.40
•2 Day adult rover £53. 20
•1 Day child/ member rover 21.60
•2 Day child/ member rover 35.40.

This is the first time ever the SVR have done a winter gala and it will also double as an end of season finale.
This is what the SVR have to say about it on there website:
"A brand new event for 2024, our Winter Steam Gala is not to be missed! Steam-heated carriages, breath-taking landscape and steam locomotives working hard – the perfect antidote to a cold winter’s day!

The event will see five locomotives in service, operating a busy four-train timetable, including an extra evening service on Saturday hauled by No. 43106."

Personally I will be attending purely for 43106's last scheduled outing before its boiler ticket expired and to see Omaha after not being able to attend the autumn gala.

The timetable for the Diesel gala can be found here: https://svr.co.uk/wp-content/upload...CZlN8aqf8-DMVlIQbU4vw9F9H_kpV80aoAokwf0Xbt0p4

The SVR have announced an official partnership with Network Rail. The SVR will gain access to spares and equipment and NR can train their staff on the SVR.

I have read SVR's 'Branch Lines' newsletters for the last couple of months but there's nothing about how its Survival Appeal is going.

How much has it raised thus far?

Looking back through this thread the last figure to emerge was £415,000, as at 31st August. Add what has been raised since, and that received for the sale of 45110, and it will still be some way short of the £1.5m target!

How much was the 'Black Five' sold for? That's another figure not made public as far as I can see.

I'm fairly sure it's up to £470,000 now.
Only £1,030,000 to go then. And the easiest part to raise is in the first few weeks. But, given that the West Somerset said last year that a similar amount was required " or we go bust etc", and they are still running with the appeal quietly shunted to one side, how close to reality is the SVR appeal? Swanage has in a similar fashion just asked for £450,000 to keep going. Is this sort of money floating around from heritage railway supporters? If the financial situation of these companies is this dire then failures , a la Llangollen, are inevitable. I wonder if the company boards feel a wee bit responsible for getting this deep into the mire?

I'm sure they are having a few sleepless nights but how many well run companies correctly predicted Coronavirus and that Putin would invade Ukraine increasing UK electricity prices by 200%?
I doubt that if the mainline railway companies didn't have ongoing extra Government Support that any of them would still be in business.

I am observing from 17,000km away, so lack the full picture but it's often curious how many Directors last so little time on heritage railway Boards.

Perhaps some have 'volunteer fatigue' but do they discover in a formal setting there are personality clashes, and at times major disagreements re policy over everything from timetables to what areas of work are prioritised to how much the MD and key staff ought earn and how many there should be employed?

I've had 2 spells as a director of a heritage railway, it ends up being an almost full time equivalent unpaid job. In my case I've only retired when the paid job required me to live overseas and it became impractical. Of course director of a heritage railway is fairly unusual in that it requires you to seek periodic re-election to the post.
