Have ticked off 33 new-to-me National Rail stations this year, making a total of 460. December’s visits were:

Heading home from High Wycombe:
  • Saunderton
  • Princes Risborough
  • Haddenham & Thame Parkway
Ticking off the Colne line with a Northern complimentary ticket:
  • Rose Grove
  • Burnley Central
  • Burnley Barracks
  • Nelson
  • Brierfield
  • Colne
Then bus to Skipton to tick off Gargrave

Taking a detour on the way to the office in Northampton to visit George, the Stourbridge station cat and ride the Parry People Mover:
  • Smethwick Galton Bridge
  • Stourbridge Junction
  • Stourbridge Town
  • Sandwell & Dudley
The nearest station to home to tick off now is Smithy Bridge. That might have to be a stop on a future trip to Manchester or a day out to also tick off Moston and Castleton, then I’ll have done all the Calder Valley line stations.

Dovey Junction

That puts me on 468 NR stations. This year's haul has been 48 new shacks plus 11 tube stations and about 20 WM Metro/NET/Supertram stops.

I didn't realise that 118 and 119 above were newly used. 118 (Great Portland Street) was the result of picking up a "wrong" train further east when I needed a Metropolitan train to the country, while 119 (Ladbroke Grove) was the result of having to take bus 52 and Hammersmith line for St Pancras before Jubilee started operation for my Netherlands trip.

So - a quick summary after a fairly quiet end to the year (other commitments, weather and strikes have kept getting in the way in the last couple of months)

Totals for year:

GB: 138
Italy: 30
Germany: 33
Czechia: 23

Highlights:
Penhelig (there would have been plenty of competitors on the Cambrian Coast - but it was chucking it down at most of them!)
Peartree (yes, really - nicely kept station and much easier to get into than I'd feared. A relief to get there after the walk through from Derby station!)

UK targets are getting harder to pick up - let's see what 2024 will bring.

At some point in December I also got round to visiting Horley and Brent Cross West. I remember going out on the Northern line & coming back on the Thameslink.

aZ. indicates that a move was followed by the same move in reverse. I came to use this idiosyncratic abbreviation in my moves book when in the Czech Republic: the Czech for "& vice versa" is "a zpět".
