I'm going to Glasgow for a few days next week.

I could take the fairly easy option of splitting Off Peak returns at Manchester for a total of £94.70. But would be route tied if not train tied.

On the other hand, if I just pay through for £15 more from Sheffield, am I right in thinking it opens up some fairly interesting track bashing options (on the return route when I am less pushed for time)?

Glasgow to Carlisle (via Kilmarnock) to Leeds (via Settle & Carlisle line) then as a bonus deviation on to Selby then Doncaster before home. Appears to be legal according to the routing guide. As does Glasgow-Perth-Edinburgh (via Ladybank)-Newcastle-Middlesbrough-Darlington-Doncaster-Sheffield.

Please correct me if I am wrong. But the most likely option is me taking the opportunity to ride the full length of the S&C for the first time.
