Is there any reason Newhaven Harbour hasn't followed the same fate as Newhaven Marine and been poised for closure?

The Port entrance is now closer to Newhaven Town, the station is a short walk from Town, and Southern trains stop calling there after 1915 and run fast to Bishopstone.

I went there recently to view the new Marine aggregate terminal. The area outside the station is absolutely shocking - covered in industrial hoardng, derelict buildings and abandoned cars litter the street access to the station. I didn't feel safe around there at all.

This is the access road to the station - passed those concrete barriers and skip - looks lovely doesn't it?

There’s about 5 years worth of discussion about both Newhaven Harbour and Marine here:

I don't whether you feel safe or not is a reason for closure!

Newhaven Harbour is in an industrial area, and in the "peak" hours is busy with Workers for the industrial area and port, as well as some Bus Drivers for Brighon&Hove's depot there...
In normal times it can also be busy with school traffic and football fans!

As it stands the station is unserved for most of the day, outside "peak"hours. This is sufficient and therefore no reason to close it.
