I have 74,000 leones (equates to about £9-10). Does anyone know where I can exchange these? My bank, the Post Office and most travel agents wont touch them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Having had the best part of 20 years dealing with foreign currency I'd say you'd be lucky to get anyone to change them over here. Exotic currencies have little value outside the country concerned - I've never seen any of it over here. Best bets are to put it in a charity box or give it to someone going out there, or get your local pub to add it to their collection on the bar walls if they do that. Not the answer you want probably. If its anything like Gambian Dalasi the notes are probably a public health hazard anyway . . :)

Thanks. I had suspected as much. Maybe I'll wait till the Sierra Leoneon economy booms, then I'll retire. Monopoly anyone?

I half expected this thread to be about smuggling USD 20million out of Senegal, and getting 10% if I help by providing my bank details!

More seriously, I had a similar problem with foreign banknotes, but eventually found a travel agent that specialises in worldwide business travel that ahreed to take them off my hands in return for sterling. Mind you, it was worth a bit more than £10, I probably wouldn't have bothered for that amount!

I havea few kopeks still from when I was in Russia, although I don't think they do a 0.0002p coin over here :)
