Good, I hate collar and tie !

I'd prefer a t shirt and combats if offered, when I went up TVSC they seemed to wear a uniform - polo and trousers in the main, a few shirt and ties to.

I obviously missed that then. Even at the interview the only one wearing a tie was the overdressed me! Cant imagine slippers in a ROC!

Anyway, what is the point in wearing a tie? Personally even in a customer facing role I don't want to see someone wearing a tie. I want them to listen and be responsive, knowledgeable and welcoming rather 'than dressed correctly'. Worst example are estate agents - they wear 3 piece suits where I live but doesn't stop them being idiots ///RantOver

100% agree, I've spent the last13 years trying to avoid wearing a tie at work

Regarding the uniform, I was wondering the same, having spent the last 18 plus years in a hard hat and oil stained boiler suit (chic, I know...). With regards to the slippers in the ROC, do I wear my Cobblers liveried ones, or go for the classic 'monster foot'?

Looking forward to York, see you all there on 23rd :)

just a quick one for those who have recently started or finished at York.

What accommodation did you stay in? Was it a typical 9-5 day at training school? Did you spend couple hours in the evening studying with others on course? did you finish early on Friday? was meals charged to rooms?

Thanks in advance

Hello, started in York yesterday. First day was 9.30 till just before 4, today was 9 till 3.40. Depends how quick you get through stuff. Fairly relaxed at the moment, but i've been told it is for the first 2 weeks then goes into overdrive.
Over the 10 weeks, the trainers have told us they expect 20 hours of homework/revision, so 2 hours a week isnt bad at all. We've got some work to take home with us this weekend, learning train classifications and bell signals. Evening wise most do their own thing. Some stay in restaurant/bar and talk, a few go out, others stay in their rooms, up to you and who you bond with so to speak. In honesty its quite easy to work out who is who, example a couple of lads on our course are the go out and have a few pints each night type, not my thing when im learning, so i stay in hotel mainly. Or go for a walk round, York is a really nice place and so different from where i come from.
Early finish Friday at 12 if the work has been worked through and your up to date, if not then its stay till 4. Mostly 12 finish though, or around 12.
Meals are charged to your room for the evening, you just give them room number. Breakfast is name and room number as you go in, eat as much as you want at breakfast. Evening meal is 20 quid which is well enough for a decent meal and a starter or pudding, or even sides. Menu isnt huge but theres enough variety. Daytime you get a breakfast token worth 5.50 for the canteen in centre. Again plenty to choose from and pricewise its ok. We were talking last night and actually saying the food is far too much for most of us, so you will not go hungry. And i like my food.
Hope that helps.

That is great really appreciate your time to respond and that covers so much just want to get started now!
What hotel do you stay in? Is it the same for 10 weeks or might this change as it has done in the past?
Thanks

Dress code is smart so no football tops track suits or shorts. First day I was in pants and shirt, but most others in jeans and t shirt or shirt, so rest of week it was jeans and shirt or jumper.
