Slateford sidings aren't much use for any non-railway purpose. Since they have permitted rights for railway use (I assume that they were the carriage sidings for Princes Street), I would have thought that someone should be planning for major railway use.

The main issue with Slateford (from a railway perspective) is that it's the wrong way around. It doesn't have a west east-facing entrance road which makes it, as @scotraildriver said, a bit of a faff operationally. I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to connect the west east end?

Edit: Mixed up my east and west!

Even an East-facing access on to the Haymarket lines would help. It's layout clearly faces the route towards Princes Street, which is now occupied by the access road. Google maps shows tracks with trees through them. The facility looks to have had minimal use since the Princes Street closed.

Princes Street Station had its carriage sidings immediately outside the station. Prior to the cutting back of Sighthill (sorry - brain-fade!) Slateford yard to build the connection to the Sub, maps show extensive sidings facing in both directions. I would expect that there would have been a lot of marshalling of traffic from the various North Edinburgh branches.
