I'll always be kind of grateful to Lord Gnome. Some years ago my Mother was disgusted with the way my Dad, early dementia, was, erm, handled. I got in touch explaining and a certain journalist had big enough interest to invite both of us to the offices for an interview.
I was actually in the inner sanctuary!
Nothing got published but, it was on their expenses
Fine by me

I have a vague recollection that Private Eye found some reason to criticise the rail industry for the Great Heck train crash in 2001; Can anyone clarify if this is correct, and if so what PE actually said ?

re Anthony Rushton.

I got the books down from the bookshelf.
Willie Rushton's cousin Tone joined the Eye in June 1962 - "on Peter Usborne's invitation, not on William's invitation".
General dogsbody, layout, advertising, even managing director for a period.
Private Eye - The First 50 Years, Adam MacQueen, 2011 p252.

Also gets good coverage in the earlier history: The Private Eye Story, Patrick Marnham, 1982

Private Eye has been essential reading during the pandemic. More so than normal times. Honest & accurate reporting.
