Hey all! Anybody on here recently or in the past done a train driver assessment with SWT before? What's the set up like? As in the order of the tests and what happens if you successfully complete the assessment centre? Do you do MMI first then the manager interview? I've been to one with GTR earlier this year but unfortunately I didn't pass, so I'm wondering if the scoring system is much higher for SWT compared to Southern's

Thanks for any help!

Hi there mate. SWT do all their assesments in one day. You start with paper tests: Group bourdon, tea occ, trp 1/2. Passing those you then do a written communication test (instead of Fault finding like most other TOC's). Successful in that you will then sit the 3 computer tests 2 hand, ATAVT and WAFV. Forgot to mention before you start you do a colour blindness test also which you'll need to pass before even sitting assesments. If you pass all that you will be done by about 2pm roughly, going by a 9am start, so its all in one go no lunch. Just short breaks to mark paper tests.
DMI is next which would be scheduled at a later date. And then MMI last on another day. All 3 sittings done at Southampton. All tests are national standard also. Do you have yours coming up?
Hope this is ample info for yourself. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for the info appreciate it! I knew some companies take months to get back to you after applying for these kinda jobs as thousands of people apply. But applied for this job back in December last year and completely forgot that I did in the first place! Then I get an email inviting me to the assessment centre in less than a month...I'm kinda hoping I can reschedule I think I'd need more preparation for this sorta thing

And baz962 I failed on TEA-Occ bit which looking back I know where I went wrong.

Well done for getting through the shortlisting. If its any consolation I failed the Tea-Occ just like u with southern last year, when I went for the assesment with SWT i was so much more relaxed and found the atmosphere much better. Southern do theirs in large numbers whereas i only had 2 doing tests with me at SWT. Yours could be slightly more because 2 didn't turn up but still wont be as large as Southern. I think I had about 20 when I did mine. My day at SWT went smoothly the woman administering is very approachable and really wants you to do well.

Well looking back I know why I failed on the TEA-Occ bit - and this should serve as a warning to those who may have the "howtobeatraindriver" kit - but I went into the assessment assuming the TEA-Occ part would be somewhat similar to what I had practised using that kit...my bad. I also kept trying to distinguish between the high and low tones rather than listening and counting so that cost me my first attempt.
I've been to a far few assessments with southern in the past and the atmosphere is sometimes tense, when I went for the driver assessment there was maybe 6 if of us surprisingly.
Does the driver assessment with swt include the test with dials and cables?

Tense is exactly the word i'll describe. SWT I felt very at ease and relaxed.
All the tests you'll be doing i've already mentioned above. As its national standard anything you've passed with southern you wont need to do again. Dials and cables are part of TRP 1 & 2 if im correct. Have u passed this already ?

The How2Become kit has been poo pooed many times on this forum. I am not at all surprised it was as useful as a dry wet wipe

Going slightly off on a tangent here - what is the Driver Fault Finding Test and what does it involve for assessments with Southern? I'm sort of in an opposite position to the OP

Solving a fault on a train in order of priority i.e train battery before a window/door, why? As doors need power from battery.

Another question: Anybody know if SWT require an enhanced pass on their Train Driver assessment?

Nah not yet I'm afraid, I wanna just get it over with but I also want to get in as much practice as possible too. I'm hoping I could reschedule it for October if anything. After practicing these last few weeks I'm feeling a bit more confident and not dreading the TEA-Occ bit but still dreading the TRP Dials and cable test and WAFV test

Nice your getting a second go mate I failed my dmi with gtr so looking about for toc recruitment drives. The wafv I was worried about that and I believe the computer tests are not enhanced only the paper ones.
Anyway good luck mate.

I'm gonna go in with the idea that I have to an enhanced pass for all tests! Contacted SWR recruitment luckily I was able to reschedule. I quite like that I'll have to do TEA-Occ first, then TRP1 and TRP2 afterwards! Also anybody recall what the dials and cables test TRP2 is with SWR? I'm sure it's gonna be the same as the GTR one I did

I think it will although I do not actually know as I think trp is standard with the opc for all psychometrics but I am sure someone might know more

Hi, I also have the (How To Be A Train Driver book and DVD) and have been working with these, can you give me any advise. I have an assessment with GTR in 17 days, so don't want to waste my time, using the wrong thing. Also any advise on what to on, for study for the day?

Many Thanks
