According to Travel South Yorkshire, a 16-18 Student Pass will allow the holder to travel for "half fare on Northern Rail train services in South Yorkshire". However, this restriction is not mentioned in the (poorly written, IMO) terms of use for the pass. Does anyone know for certain whether tickets purchased with the discount are restricted to Northern Rail services only?

I imagine that the validity of the Student Pass is similar to the ENCT (OAP!) passes. The concession for half price train travel ONLY applies to Northern. Since XC only call at Sheffield and Doncaster, and TPE only call at those two stations plus Meadowhall, being restricted to Northern isn't such a great inconvenience. Don't forget too that Off Peak returns are not valid between 16:01 and 18:29 (M-F).
