Annoyed with Southeastern though as the TVM at St Pancras would not sell me a £19:80 fare to Dover

We had to queue up for the ticket office; which could have resulted in us missing the train.

When I questioned the lady she was surly and said you had to get that ticket on line or at the office??

Surely a con?

Are you referring to the Super off peak day return with Gold Card discount? It isn't uncommon for TVMs to not sell tickets that either aren't loaded into the system, or might not be valid at the time of query.

Had you missed the train due to the most appropriate ticket for your journey being unavailable, and having to queue at the booking office, I believe you would have grounds for complaint.

St P to Dover Priory super off peak return.

Not the ticket quoted as it was valid on HS1

Tried to buy at 15:10 so a valid time to buy.
Yep, the £19.80 ticket I've linked to is valid on HS1, so it looks like the one you were after but if it's a different ticket you were after please advise which one! :)

Edited due to Causton's post:

Wtf!

Thanks for flagging this. I will be using a 'F4' ticket in the near future and will make sure I book it on line.

In view of the later comments can you confirm that the ticket did show 'Plus High Speed' ?

There are super off peak day return fares on many longer journeys on southeastern. They are available for travel after 10am with no return time restrictions and good value. I pay £9 day return from Rainham to Victoria or Charing Cross with my gold card.

They started life as Pricebuster returns valid from parts of Kent only to Victoria and initially included a peak time return restriction but that was removed years ago.

The screen of the TVM at Rainham still shows the super off peak return as being for Victoria only which is incorrect and must cause some people travelling to (eg) Charing Cross to pay more than they need. The ticket prints to London Terminals, not Victoria as it has done for years.

Can you buy the non HS1 version of the Southeastern super off peak and upgrade 1 way with an HS1 supplement?

In the event I couldn't book on line due to the poor wifi connection on EMT yesterday. However, the Super Offpeak fare (London to Hastings) was available for purchase without problem on the SE TVM at St Pancras, so perhaps it is just GoldCard discounts which are the problem.

Southeastern staff will not allow you through the gateline with a ticket that is not valid on Highspeed.
