Hi.

Had a search, but can only find a few direct replies to a specific question/situation, not what the general rules are.

I travelled with a couple of friends on Sat 18th Dec 2021 from Rowley Regis to Cheltenham using groupsave and split tickets (at Worcester Foregate Street), turning a £28 journey into a £12 journey.

The return 15.48 journey from Cheltenham to Worcester was cancelled (terminated short at Gloucester), meaning a 2 hr wait for the next train.

So, a few of questions:

1. What are the general rules around split tickets and delay repay? Should I claim the whole journey or just the cancelled portion?

2. Would I have been allowed to return on a Cross Country train via Birmingham or Worcestershire Parkway?

Thanks. Sheds.

1. If it is one journey, you can claim delay repay based on the whole journey, from the train operating company whose services initially caused the delay, irrespective of the number of tickets. However, a few operators do not always accept this when claims are initially submitted, but appeal as this is incorrect. Similarly, if you are delayed on one of your split tickets, but not on the journey as a whole, this is not a valid claim and you should not claim on that one ticket.
2. Group save is not accepted by Cross Country. This option would not be valid without specific endorsement from authorised staff, so should not factor into the delay calculations - but it might be, so again appeal as this would not be a valid rejection as your ticket was not valid for Cross Country

Quite possibly, had you asked (ticket acceptance does not get restricted by the presence of Groupsave discounts).

I can't remember who posted this on here before (possibly Yorkie?) but I believe that this is the current guidance issued to staff on how to treat Dely Repay on split tickets.

If this is not up to date information can someone provide the latest guidance

Thanks

You may use a combination of two or more tickets to make a journey.

Delay repay is based on the delay to your journey.

Some Passenger Charters (eg GWR and SWR) specifically say they will pay out when a combination of tickets is used, but a claim is still valid even if it isn’t specifically mentioned.
