Split ticket - request stops

A query. I was looking at a journey from Bangor to Wrexham on trainsplit and noticed that splitting at Llanfairfechan was slightly cheaper than a through ticket (all anytime returns). If I were to use this, would the onus be on me to ensure that the train did in fact stop there (by requesting it, even if not intending to alight - this may cause confusion with the driver etc) or would it be OK to assume others would use this? (eg http://timetablehistory.com/times.aspx?uid=G75143&date=20210806 and http://timetablehistory.com/times.aspx?uid=G74668&date=20210806 )

Everytime I have used a service that has had this as a request stop it has stopped there but I imagine there may be a time when this would not occur (or the situation might be different on other lines)

There is no requirement for the train to actually stop, it's sufficient for it to be booked to do so.

After all, if a guard were to say "we're not stopping there, you can't split there" you could (if you were bloody-minded) insist on getting off at Llanfairfechan, and then getting straight back on the same train!

Thanks Watershed - any thoughts if this is still the case if the booked changeover station is request only?

The train is deemed to call there, so "splitting" is absolutely fine.

I'd approach staff and explain that I am travelling to Wrexham, and although I have tickets to/from the request station I don't require the train to call there (unless they do, or someone else does!)

Yes, makes no difference. Trainsplit wouldn't sell it to you if it weren't valid
