Omnicities were coming for the 685 but the Hexham depot manager said they would be too small and they were turned away!

Fairdoos then!
Would be great having Omnicities, but yeah not great on size! Its a wonder why Stagecoach NE haven't agreed to be tied in the ruddy contract, seems perfect sense,then there wouldn't be this :lol:

Apparently Kendal's Scania E400's for 555 are going to be coach seated. Wonder how long the seats will last when they end up on schools :roll:

Not the same seats as on the X2 I hope :roll: there not very comfy, no where near as comfy as the high backs on the 60 Reg Scania's

Problem you would have with Stagecoach North East running it and not Stagecoach North West is that how would you run the 6.07 and 7.07am out of Carlisle without running light to Carlisle from Newcastle at something daft like 4.40am?

Obviously Arriva are ideally placed to operate the first ones out of Newcastle with there depot being basically in the City Centre. Arriva have tried to take all of the 685s over before but Stagecoach North West do not want to hear it. Obviously, that was when Hexham depot was theirs. I wouldnt see how it could work now with it working out of Jesmond depot.

I think you will find that Mattdw92, was trying to say is that Stagecoach NE should replace Arriva NE on the 685's.

Why would Arriva let them take over the 685? The 685 is a big money route for Arriva.

Although I do see your point! However I do not have a Stagecoach head lol Im from the North East so its a welcome change having Arriva come into Carlisle every hour. I do not think I could handle more Stagecoach......

I would have thought they are the same as the Scans on the X2 yes. I suppose it's a valid decision seeing as the 555/556 is actually quite a long route when you go from the beginning to end. I have never travelled in a coach seat on a Scan so I have no idea how good they are!

All this talk about the X4/X5 has made me think back to capacity issues they apparently had last summer with drivers having to turn people away at bus stops. Obviously not sure how big an issue this is... any body have any comments?

Reported on the Stagecoach News Group is that the 3 Darts that I saw pass through Carlisle depot on Tuesday night are:

33428 X428 NSE
33470 T470 GPS
33476 S476 JSE

33143 is currently stored in Carlisle depot next to the 2 Western Coaches. Not a lot to report from my visit to the depot today apart from that 16355 has eventually moved and is not parked behind 16353 anymore. 52414 still behind 20966. After I left I could not recall seing 42672 outside either.

In Carlisle 20904/20944/20960 out on the 554/685
34214 on the 75 instead of the usual Solo

Reays had the 57 plate Primo and a 75 branded Primo out on the 64.

The 3 Darts will have been stopping off on their way from Highland to East Kent.

What's replacing them at Inverness I wonder?

This is how I see it:
If Scanias come for X5.
The 4 Profiles currently working X4/X5 will either go to Carlisle to work 685 or go to Stagecoach Western to work X75 Stranraer - Carlisle to replace western's Plaxton Premiere Inturbans.

Had an E-mail the other day saying that 16353 was suppose to be coming to Lillyhall but unfortunetly has a cracked chassis so it's probaly going to scrap instead.

In my opinion I cannot see any Enviros coming for the X4/X5 any time soon. The Profiles are perfect for the route and provide a fantastic journey. I have done the full trip a few times and cannot have any complaints. Fair enough, like many routes they leave people at stops in the summer (much like the 685 I must add). As for 1 going to Western I cannot see that ever happening.

Would not be suprised if the Coaches are still here a year today and cannot see any reason why they would not be....

Hopefully 16351 will make the journey to Lillyhall soon...

Rather certain that Scanias will not be coming anytime soon. The only issue with the Profiles is capacity and apart from that I think they are perfect as stated above!

17020 and 16657 on short 3s.

16353 is shown as possible scrap on the fleetcard so not looking good at all!

And the lack of accessibility :lol:
Only 4 stops along the full X5 route where the lift can safely be used, due to the space it takes up. It can only be used in Workington Bus Station, Cockermouth Main Street, Thornthwaite, and Keswick Bus Station.
They are still excellent machines though. Ride rather nicely :)

The coaches are probaly the jonckheere's that have been withdrawn from Preston.

And you have to download a program called Mobitec Zedit 32 here is the link:http://http://mobitec-zedit-32-fonts-ver-01219-02.software.informer.com/1.2/

It's quite sad that we're losing X4, as Cainebj said it is a scenic route RIP Castle Inn and Bassenthwaite.

It would seem that Lancaster University underpass is now closed with services 3/4 doing a full circuit of campus then heading back into town. I'm guessing, as I haven't investigated yet, that the Chaplaincy centre is now been used as the primary bus stop.

16441 turned up 20 minutes late for its 0820 X5 to Cockermouth School this morning, so 47023 was pulled from 0830 51 to run it, so that 51 didn't run. Passengers were suggested to use the 0832 31 instead.
16649 on 30/31 with 35247.
47023 was 51, think 16441 went on the 0900 one.
47059 on 50.
34215, 34218 and 47005 on Harrington and Seaton.

33162 and 34214 on 76.
33161 on 60.
33076 been out on a Citi service too.
All 4 Scania's on 300.
16734 and 20994 on LL 600.
20904 on CE 600.
20451 on 94's.
20965 short 685.
52627 and 52629 on 685.
20944 was on 79/179/379. 24122 on too.

Noticed 15686 has a few odd rear n/s panels :lol: Picture to be uploaded when I get home tonight from uni.

Cumbrian bus routes axed or withdrawn as council cuts subsidy
Last updated at 09:36, Monday, 07 March 2011

Nineteen rural bus routes in Cumbria will be cut or withdrawn completely from the end of April as a result of spending cuts.

Cumbria County Council says a reduction in government grants has forced it to slash subsidies by £346,000 although it will still spend £1.5 million to support loss-making services in 2011-12.

Most of the affected routes operate only one or two days a week to provide shopping journeys to large towns.

But the cuts will leave some villages without any public transport.

They include Blencogo, Crosby Garrett, Ennerdale Bridge, Gilgarran, Great Musgrave, Great Orton, Ivegill, Low Moreseby, Moat near Longtown, Pica, Skelton and Wreay.

The council says the services to be withdrawn were selected by careful evaluation, taking into account the numbers of passengers, the cost per passenger journey and the availability of alternatives.

It claims that the routes going are the least used and some cost taxpayers nearly £15 for each passenger carried.

Councillor Tim Knowles, the cabinet member responsible, said: “Given the scale of spending cuts, we have to make some difficult decisions.

“But we’ve been fair, balanced and meticulous in making these decisions.

“We can’t carry on supporting a bus that is so under used that it costs the public purse up to £15 per passenger every time the bus runs.”

He said there were alternatives, such as Rural Wheels and voluntary car-driver schemes, which would plug gaps where there were no longer any buses.

Bus passengers make almost 19m journeys in Cumbria each year but only 1.8m are on subsidised services.

The rest are on commercial routes, mostly run by Stagecoach, which are unaffected by the review of subsidies.

These are the changes affecting north and west Cumbria:

* Reays 39: Aspatria-Carlisle via Fletchertown and Great Orton. Withdrawn to save £16,000 a year.
* Stagecoach 71: Newton Arlosh-Carlisle. Carlisle College-holidays’ journey arriving in Carlisle at 8.50am and return at 5pm withdrawn to save £4,600. Term-time Carr’s bus from Silloth via Newton Arlosh unaffected.
* NBM 111: Burnbanks-Penrith via Bampton. Tuesday service withdrawn to save £7,500. Saturday buses continue.
* Telfords 127: Newcastleton-Carlisle. Will no longer serve Moat saving £3,700.
* Stacey’s 133: Penrith-Carlisle via Lazonby, Kirkoswald and Wreay. Withdrawn to save £5,700.
* Rosie’s Travel 217: Frizington-Cockermouth. Withdrawn saving £46,000.
* John Hoban 222: Workington-Whitehaven via Gilgarran and Pica. Withdrawn saving £43,600. Alternative transport will be laid for sixth-form pupils in Workington.
* Grand Prix 571: Warcop/Crosby Garrett/Nateby-Kirkby Stephen. Withdrawn saving £4,900.
* Caldew Coaches 620: Caldbeck-Carlisle via Hesket Newmarket. Withdrawn to save £5,200.
* Robinsons 625: Appleby-Penrith via Long Marton, Dufton and Knock. Tuesday service withdrawn but Saturday bus survives as does Friday circular from Appleby. Saving £3,800.
* NBM 961: Caldbeck-Penrith via Hesket Newmarket and Skelton. Withdrawn saving £7,600.

These are the changes affecting south Cumbria:

* 10: Barrow - Ulverston via Leece, Gleaston, Stainton, Little & Great Urswick
* 511: Broughton in Furness - Ulverston including Service 60: Ulverston - Canal Head
* 541: Bowness/Winster - Kendal via Underbarrow, Crosthwaite and Brigsteer (Tuesday and Thursday only)
* 550: Silverdale - Beetham - Kendal via Hincaster, Sedgwick and Natland
* 552: Levens - Kendal / Milnthorpe Diversion
* 564: Kendal - Sedbergh (Monday - Friday 17:40)
* 564A: Cowgill - Dent - Sedbergh - Kendal (Saturdays)
* 571: Crosby Garrett - Kirkby Stephen (Wednesday)
* 618: Barrow - Ulverston - Newby Bridge - Windermere - Ambleside

16714 left Carlisle paint shop today before heading back to Lillyhall. It has had all its seats removed. Looking quite smart - http://stagecoachuk.fpic.co.uk/p69317461.html

33162 was took off service 76 replaced by a 76 branded Dart

16329 is back from Penrith on the pit, presume 47721 has replaced it.

The East Lancs Spryte has also gone from Carlisle this morning.

Bit of an update on the Lancaster University Underpass situation for those interested:

The underpass has been closed indefinitely due to it not been structurally sound. The iron girders holding the roof together have been erroded by water (they have been there for around 50 years). Until further notice all bus services will use the Chaplaincy Centre. The bus shelter will also be moved to that location this afternoon. The car parking outside the Chaplaincy has been removed and "BUSES ONLY" has been painted on the ground. Zebra crossings have also been created. As of mid morning the 3/4 were told not to do a full circuit of campus as they had been but instead to drop off at the Chaplaincy Centre, go down South West and then come back the way they came to the Chaplaincy Centre to pick up before heading back into town. Apparently there is not enough time for the 3/4 to do a full circuit meaning that staff and students who catch the bus from the InfoLab will no longer be able to do so. Drivers are also been told to switch off there engines if they are waiting for time at the Uni.

Also in July the exit lanes on the University driveway will be closed while work is carried out and new bus stops will be errected by the new sports centre.

The transport manager at the University has been on site all day monitoring what is going on and making sure it all works.

Quite a lot of irrelevant detail there but thought I would post it anyway :)

22809 looks great with it's LEDs and 17024s new paint job looks even better in the sun!

Is 17023 having work done? I haven't seen it for weeks!
