Stansted Express

Hi folks,

Been digging around and couldn't find anything on tricks to get cheaper travel to Stansted. Are there any tricks here, or is the only way to pay full whack?
(No PRIV for me, sadly...)

Liverpool Street - Audley End is valid via Stansted.

Yep- Get the coach from Stratford -from £5 if booked early on line. Journey time is only slightly longer than the train though I wouldn't use if you are flying in the evening and will be on M11 between 4.30-6.30 Mon-Fri.

Not any more it isn't. There's now a negative easement:

700455 Customers travelling from or via Broxbourne to London Liverpool Street and beyond, may not travel via Stansted Airport. This easement applies in both directions.

You can get around this buying from Stratford London instead. Stratford London to Elsenham Essex is a good deal compared to other fares and is valid to start short at Tottenham Hale, which is useful as you can change from the Victoria Line.

Despite the easement (which is rather oddly written), NRE still shows Audley End - Liv St via Stansted as valid.

In the electronic version of the Routeing Guide, the easement in question only applies to journeys between 11th November and 23rd December 2013, so that will be why journey planners permit the journey.

Indicidentally, I am not of the opinion that the easement was intended to ban travel to Audley End and stations beyond via Stansted Airport. I think it was when the line was closed for engineering work and there were fast direct buses from Stansted Airport to Liverpool Street, to stop journey planners routeing passengers from stations Broxbourne to Stansted Mountfitchet on these buses.
