Apologies if an answer to this already exists... but can anyone point me to an UpToDate list of all of the station names in the UK in a spreadsheet format? I've got an old (probably out of date) version which has TIPLOCS on it, but a bit of a chore to sort through the stations from the other locations. I'd rather a simple list of stations only...

Or... by count of the number of letters, which station has the longest single word name in England, Scotland, Wales, NI and ROI?

I'm also curious about stations named after fruit. I know Pineapple Road will be opened at some point soon(ish) but any others?

add Plumstead, Liverpool Lime Street
Oof good one!

Apparently can add Plumley and Plumpton also.

Strawberry Hill.

There's a couple of Bramleys in there but I thought that was a bit of a loose connection (albeit the bramley apple will no doubt have come from there..)

Trainline has their station list open data on the French transport.data.gouv.fr

Ce jeu de données contient un référentiel utilisé par Trainline d’environ 30 000 points d’intérêt (points d’arrêt, gares et villes) desservis par des opérateurs de transport collectif en Europe.
This dataset contains a reference used by Trainline of around 30k POI (stops, railway stations, cities) served by public transport in Europe

Longest single-word station in GB is Penrhyndeudraeth (16) (Llanfair PG is officially Llanfairpwll). Longest in England is Stallingborough (15). Scotland's is Achnashellach (13).

I suppose breaking the rules you have St Keyne Wishing Well Halt in Cornwall which is the only station I know of that still uses the word halt in its title and uses 5 separate words for the name

And Berrylands can be added to the list of fruit-related stations.

Plumpton is Plump-ton if you're breaking the name down so is a little bit of a stretch to say it's named after fruit.
Web searches seem to pretty much unanimously point to it originating as "plum tree farm or settlement", possibly indirectly via a family name but still fruit based. It looks like the middle "p" is a meaningless insertion presumably for pronunciation.

Here's the academic reference site pointed to by Wikipedia:

Plumpton

'Plum-tree farm/settlement'.

Elements and their meanings

  • plūme (Old English) A plum; a plum-tree.
  • tūn (Old English) An enclosure; a farmstead; a village; an estate.

I stand corrected! And I grew up not very far from the village...

No, bramley apples are named after Mr Bramley, a Nottinghamshire butcher, in whose garden the variety was grown.

If we are breaking the rules Rhoose Cardiff International Airport Station. is longer (40 characters beats 26)

I got...

4 Apples
3 Plums
2 Bramley (tenuous, but I like it!)
2 Lime
1 Melon
1 Pear

Only limited by the list of fruit... mine is 75 fruit long.

Not counting Pineapple yet...
