Not seen the pub on Platform 3B at Doncaster mentioned, that is a very nice little pub. I see knaresborough has been mentioned for track and sleeper but it is definitely one of my favourites.
First mention in post#6.
I think nearby is fine, especially if it has railway themed name or decor. But only if you can get a decent pint of real ale.
Wigan Central under the arches Wigan North Western
See the Swan & Railway opposite Wigan North Western has been mentioned. Decent pint of Bass in there.

Weren't there a couple under the arches at Wigan NW? I've never ventured round that side.

The Fenman opposite King's Lynn station. Used to have railway memorabilia in there.

A 5 minute walk from Grantham station (via the public footpath subway) brings you to Grantham Railway Club. Local CAMRA Club of the Year for the last few years. Open every evening and lunchtimes Saturday & Sunday.

Close to Scarborough is the Stumble Inn (worth the few mins walk).
Agreed....and even closer is the Kraft Bar diagonally across the street at the traffic lights. Shame the Head of Steam on the station closed....although it always seemed to be full of lager-swilling delinquents when I looked in.

A few more which have come to mind:-

The Station Yard micropub and beer garden - in the former goods office immediately outside Dunbar station.

Off the Rails - on the platform at Weston-super-Mare.

Shebeen (formerly Walkabout) in the former station building at Clifton Down.

The last two don't sell cask ales....although the Station Yard sells good craft keg ales from a local brewery.

Is this the one that is now Steam?
Probably. My brother, whom I visit once a year, lives nearby....and every time I go it seems to have changed its name! It seems to be a student-orientated 'fun' pub of 'It's a Scream!' genre.... although I did pop in briefly once a few years ago when I was desperate to use the toilet.

Yes, indeed, for the Bass in Swan & Railway.

Wigan Central is the only place in the Arches that does real ale. Hideout next door is brilliant though for coffee, toasties, pizza, other kinds of beer...

Next door to that is Plata Tapas which does what it says on the tin.

The short-lived 1984 has been shut for 2 or 3 years.

Watch this space for exciting developments in 2 of the empty Arches.

The Station Bar at Wemyss Bay is quite nice.

No real ales mind, but a couple of IPAs, Guinness and a few lagers. It's not a big place by any means, so I suspect they'd struggle with real ale. Great for a swift one before the ferry... Apparently.

Source: alighted a ScotRail train 50 minutes ago and have a CalMac ticket in my pocket:lol: the station cafe next door is alright as well FWIW. Not the best fish and chips I've ever had, but decent enough and good value.

Visted the ELR last week and imbibed in both the platform bar at Bury Bolton Street and the one at Rawtenstall station. Good ale in both and some great spicy chicken skewers at Bolton Street.

So, it's open again. Talk the other week of problems as it was shut 'for the foreseeable future' or something.

Was shut for all of two days following discovery of unknown material in the roof space. Tested to be safe and all cleared.

In addition to the pub on Doncaster P3, I believe The Mallard (in the Frenchgate shopping centre) has a balcony overlooking the North of Doncaster Station. I may have to investigate when the weather improves!

I've had a quick scan and I don't think The Ludlow Brewing Co has had a shout out. 2 min walk from the station next to the tracks.
All ales are brewed on site, with the fermentation vessels gleaming in the background.

It's not quite a station pub but today I enjoyed a fine pint of Zahara pale at the Grainstore Brewery Tap adjacent to Oakham station.

The Mallard on Dingwall station platform. (Very busy on match days. Ross County FC's ground is opposite the station.)

I don’t know if it might be worth starting a separate thread for ‘Stations where you expect a pub to be nearby but there isn’t or there is but it’s rubbish’ (if enough people think so I will), but Loughborough leaps to mind.
Ooh yes I've been thinking about this and my nomination is Rugby.

Not a huge distance from Euston or Kings Cross is the Somers Town Coffee House (it's a pub despite the name), tucked away off the main drag and far better because of it. Served a good pint and had a nice atmosphere in there. Far better than the Parcel Yard in KX itself which seemed to be overcrowded and serving bad pints when I went in there one lunchtime.

Euston Tap is good fun. Nice in the summer but entertaining in the winter - back in February myself and a mate had just bagged the one table without an umbrella as it started to rain...
Talking of Euston, there's now a Spoons outside the station, The Captain Flinders, but it's surprisingly small. A much better Spoons is The George opposite Wanstead tube station

Away from London (just), The Railway Arms opposite Bushey isn't bad, while The Tavern Inn is decent enough too if you're waiting at Kemble.

Which is up for sale if it hasn't already been sold sadly. Had a good chat with one of the station staff about it last time I was there.

That's a great shout.

So many better pubs in Wanstead -- if the 'Spoons does shut then that's a huge shame of course, but it's the weakest offering on the High Street and surrounding areas.

Oh, this is not good…

I am visiting Rugby to watch some cricket in a few weeks time, how far from the station is the nearest real ale pub?
search "WhatPub" it is a CAMRA listing of all the pubs, not just GBG ones, and you can usually choose a town's station for distances. Says Seven stars is 0.4 miles away.

Indie Rabble and Two Flints taprooms are under the arches supporting Windsor & Eton Central.

I wonder if today’s nationalisation announcement will have any positive impact on the Arch Co tenants…

One that appeares to have escaped this list is the Fynonderee Distilery and Bar at Ramsey Station on the Manx Electric Railway.

I was on the island for a few days for the Transport Festival and gave it a whirl.

Speciality is Manx gin, but other spirits are available as are Manx keg beers. Actually nicely laid out. The entrance is just by the level crossing where inbound workings stop to unload passengers. Literally just a couple of steps and you are inside.

Opening times are from 10:45 to 18:00 Tuesday to Thursday and 10:45 to 22:00 Friday and Saturday. Closed Sunday and Monday.
