Hello... :)

Can anyone provide me with a list of stations with public shower facilities?

What about other public showers near stations?

Finding any showers anywhere in the UK is pretty unusual, it would seem...

Thanks.

Excluding first class lounges (eg Euston) -

Paddington
Glasgow Central
Inverness
Fort William
Edinburgh

These are the only ones I know of but there may be a few more.

London Euston and London Kings Cross have them. There is also a shower at Manchester Airport's station, but I think thats just for users of a scheme to get people cycling...

Euston, Kings Cross, Fort William (I think), Glasgow Central and Edinburgh all spring to mind, however, I'm not sure of their availability to standard class / non-Sleeper passengers etc. I think KGX's are open to all.

I'ld be too scared to use them, just incase some cottaging was going on!

I used Glasgow & Fort William's last week.
Both available to all passengers - but Fort William free to first class sleeper passengers.

Wow, there are fewer than I thought.

Perhaps they aren't a popular feature though. Do many stations on the continent have public showers?

London Victoria still has showers, does it not? I very rarely use the toilets there, even though I use the station regularly (normally for several return journeys every week). I don't think the showers have been removed, though. There is a fee to enter the toilets, and I think there is an extra fee for the showers.

Edinburgh is open to all, costs £5 unless you have a first-class ticket (to anywhere). Euston is the same.

Same with KGX and they look much better then the ones in the pic of glasgows do thats for sure.

And theres no cottaging going on as you have to let the cleaner open the showers for you and only one person at a time.

That sounds better than what I imagined. I thought it would be just a row of showers next to one another! Is the soap on a rope?

Try living in Student Accomodation ;)

My first accommodation just had a pipe coming out the wall that squirted very fine jets of water - uncomfortable and nearly impossible to actually get damp!

I've used worse than the one in the photo and if I'd just got off a sleeper I'd be grateful for it.

I stayed at my ex's home in Thailand, her shower was a standpipe over a bucket. To have a shower you had to fill up a bucket and sluice yourself avoiding the Mozzies. To flush the toilet you also had to fill up a bucket and pour down the loo!

In the event you block a toilet which has a "conventional" flushing system (as in the sort you normally find in the UK, just in case I actually need to be more specific) you can sometimes unblock it by pouring a bucket of water down it whilst it's in the process of flushing (just in case you didn't know). I sometimes wonder if certain 153s need this treatment, but there we are.

As for the shower in the picture posted on this thread... that really isn't bad, providing it is reasonably well-cleaned.

Recently used the ones at Glasgow, and they were perfectly fine - wouldn't have chosen the colour scheme, but they were clean, hot and had good pressure.

(Not a patch on the incredible ones at Narita airport, but I wouldn't expect anywhere in this country to be!)

I've only ever had to use the ScotRail/Virgin showers at Euston and they were of a reasonable standard being well maintained. Outside stations then I would use the ones at a Regus centre if I had to by an airport or off a sleeper train. As far as general public showers go though (even pay per use) I think I'll pass.

If you do want to use a shower regularly in a city centre then paying the £200 or so a year for a Regus membership might be a good bet. You can also use their internet facilities and I think you get free tea & coffee etc.

I don't have the link to hand, but you can get Regus Gold membership for free by signing up to Intercontinental Hotels' Priority Club frequent stay programme, then applying online for a Regus card with your membership number.

Did so a couple of years ago, and it's been great for free office space and Internet while on the move.

Yes, there is a greater demand due to the larger amount of sleepers. A couple that I have used (Paris Nord, Zurich HB and Hamburg Hbf) are ran by a private company called McClean (Swiss apparently) - modern and spotless. They can be quite pricey but they are cleaned after every use and you get free mints and toothpaste as well.

I'm not surprised there's so few public showers about, don't think there's a call for them apart from stations where he Sleeper calls at &, Airpoprts with long haul flights
