I'm sure there are probably other examples too where they take the name of the largest urban area rather than the place it is actually in.

The station called Wickham Market on the East Suffolk line is two miles away from the town it's named after, and is really located in a villiage called Campsea Ashe

Slightly related, but at Meadowhall the other day the robo-announcer announced Alfreton as "Alfreton and Mansfield Parkway" - what the hell!? The screens didn't say that, and the signs at Alfreton don't say that!

On the Argyle Line every Sunday, trains go terminate Balloch as opposed to Dalmuir. The display boards at stations say "Balloch Central", yet, Balloch Central has long since closed. The station there now is simply called "Balloch".

And yeah, the Edinburgh one gets me as well. They seemingly refuse to call it Edinburgh Waverley (with the exception of the on train announcements and the little LCD at the front/rear of e train). Everywhere else it's just listed as "Edinburgh", which isn't handy at all because Edinburgh has multiple stations.

On the new Sevenoaks - Kentish Town Thameslink services, they apparently have an unusual announcement at Catford.
They'e discovered a station called 'St Pancras Midland Road'

I believe St Pancras Midland Rd was the original planned name for the low level Thameslink platforms at St Pancras.

CORRECT!

When it was announced that it was intended to be called 'Midland Road', there was a bit of an outcry - the main criticism being that the name was ordinary and anonymous, considering WHY the station was put there in the first place! I was told that there was an editorial in the Evening Standard that ripped into NR about the original name, which triggered the change of name.

Indeed it was (as 43106 mentions above) But it isn't what it's called now! So how come no-one noticed this was in the system during the however many years the build took?
