Some overseas tramways run restaurant trams. I wonder whether a vintage T68 would end up doing this?

Or could one end up with a dieseal engine and converted to works use?

I did one hear it suggested that Crich should get a T68 (and even perhaps a T69) but there are many complications in this, including having the space, the voltage difference, the high floor access, money,...

re; the original topic of this thread (the kettle loco), I am stunned. Yes I understand how and why, but its still a surprise.

Weren't they being kept to run de-icing trains through the night?

If so, we might see them in action quite soon?

3004, 3005, 3051 & 3055 and 3014, 3016, 3017, 3021 and 3032 are all fitted with ice breaker pantographs so no need for the t68's :D

Sorry to say, but I don't recall any of the T68s going out ice breaking last year - they've since spent another 12 months powered down and un-used so I'd be very surprised to see one heading out.

Shrimper is correct. A T68 was used for ice-breaking duties in 2013, and there was talk of it happening in 2014, but ultimately the M5000s received the icebreaking pans.

It's unlikely that any T68s will see engineering use as they are banned from most of the recent extensions due to their different wear patterns on the track to the M5000s.

There may be T68s remaining in Manchester, but they won't see use on the tracks again.
