Is there an alternative route other than via Lichfield Trent Valley? My mum cannot always manage the steps, and the gap between the platform and the LM trains on 1 and 2 is huge!

Via Birmingham, but according to NRE it costs more and takes considerably longer (time was when that was effectively the only route). Taxi from TV?

The only alternative I know by train is Birmingham. This isn't normally valid on a Stoke-Lichfield City ticket, but is valid on the slightly dearer Kidsgrove-Lichfield City tickets (which you can use for a journey between Stoke and Lichfield).

You could ask London Midland or Crosscountry about your mother taking the longer route. As Lichfield Trent Valley is a lot harder to get around, they're likely to be fine about it with either ticket.

Considered, but she still needs to cross the bridge on the outward journey!
