LNER has reported this morning that there is disruption to services in the Edinburgh area due to wire damage. Looking at the track map, there has been a North Berwick-Edinburgh been sat at Musselburgh since 9am, and TPE & LNER trains sat behind it at Wallyford and Prestonpans. It states disruption is expected until the end of the day, which suggests it’s pretty major damage. Must be storm related surely.

Damage to the overhead electric wires in the Edinburgh area is causing disruption to journeys running to / from this station.
As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised.
We anticipate disruption will continue until the end of the day.”

Was due to travel back to Edinburgh today but having to go tomorrow instead. I've not had much luck travelling with LNER.

Prestonpans from what I can make out. Disruption was expected until 12:00 but now until the end of the day. Would imagine it’s unsafe to do much while the wind strength is still high.

A friend is booked on the 1S97 14:48 King’s Cross to Edinburgh service. Looking at real train times it’s formed from the 1E82 9:24 from Edinburgh, but can’t see if it’s departed and the 14:48 will be delayed? Anyone know?

LNER have issued a DO NOT TRAVEL message here on X/Twitter for all of their services, across all of their routes. This is due to severe weather conditions.

⛔️ #LNERUpdate Due to severe weather customers are advised not to travel today Wednesday 27 December 2023 as services are likely to be subject to significant delays and short notice alterations or cancellations.

LNER route map showing disruption across whole route. Advising customers not to travel.

Avanti West Coast are also facing disruption to their Edinburgh/Glasgow bound services due to flooding.

The overhead line problems are at Craigentinny but traffic on the main line is moving now.

The line is currently shut in both directions at Penmanshiel because of flooding and a report of a landslip.

Edit @ 11:55 - looks like the Up line at least has reopened as 1E12 is signalled beyond Dubar.

Ah thanks. National Rail kept mentioning Prestonpans. Looks like being one of those days for anyone travelling Anglo-Scottish.

1306 to Dumfries - No onward Trains

1408 to Glasgow Central - Estimated Arrival in Glasgow 16.40

1509 to Dumfries - No onward Trains

1608 to Glasgow Central - Estimated Arrival in Glasgow 18.39

1725 to Dumfries - No onward Trains

1759 to Glasgow Central - Estimated Arrival in Glasgow 20.37

1921 to Dumfries - 48 mins change to Glasgow Central-bound train - Estimated arrival in Glasgow 22.42

2111 to Dumfries - No onward Trains

2310 to Dumfries - No onward Trains

All found using RTT - May be subject to Delays.

Avanti West Coast have now issued a Code Black - Do Not Travel for services north of Preston.

Should be advertised publicly in due course.

Yet another day of LNER giving up and leaving their customers to fend for themselves. It’s happening far too often to believe this company is fit for purpose.

Is it not possible for Avanti (or TPE) to run a (limited) service between Preston and Carlisle?

Anyone knows why?
@Thenu. Welcome to the forum. Almost certainly due to the overhead wires being down in the Edinburgh area. The 1500 might still run North from Kings Cross, but not as far as Scotland.

May be advisable for your folks to consider travelling later in the week, if that's possible.

It's becoming a joke how often they are doing that. I've just been through Kings X, there are hundreds if not thousands of people on the concourse. What are they supposed to do now?

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah might advise them to do so.

Customers stranded in today’s disruption can book hotels and claim this back by sending their hotel receipt/invoice and travel documentation to [email protected] with ‘Disruption - Wednesday 27th December’ as the subject line.

Good on LNER for being proactive and providing this “option”! Hopefully they refund everyone who books a hotel.

Edit: I’m aware they need to etc etc, but this is the first that I’m aware of where they’ve provided this option publicly.

LNER is the first listed alternative for the disruption to EMR on the Midland Mainline (get to Doncaster then travel on LNER to King's Cross).

Best of luck taking off and landing in these conditions!
There are a few delays but not many cancellations at Edinburgh Airport this morning. Seems that the airline industry is far more robust and customer-focused than the railways these days.

Lots of wind down here in third rail land but the network is largely fine ;)(apart from Portsmouth)
The only weather events that reliably cause disruption are snow/flooding and that's a lot less common than moderate wind
