Barrhead services from December 2023

Mu thoughts are this will become 3 or 4 car Class 380 operation, with Class 318/320 taking over Paisley Canal services. Suspect Barrhead might go half hourly from December.

Other thoughts are that Neilston services will become 6 car 318/320 operation with 4 car 380 coming off Neilston services

Almost definitely 380s and 385s.

There is effectively a surplus of 385s at the minute due to the post-covid timetable reducing their workings significantly - baring in mind at full utilisation they were operating 15 minutely 8-car Edinburgh to GQS services pre-covid, which are now 8-car every 30 minutes, to name an example. And central belt routes, most notably Lanark and Shotts, are notorious for carrying 6 coaches of fresh air off-peak (which has been highlighted in ScotRail reports), so again these would no doubt provide flexibility off-peak.

Same applies to Bathgate services, with 334s running doubled all day due to platform constraints preventing opportunities from reducing formations during the off peak. This would also be solved if they were to displace 318s/320s on Argyle workings to free up another 380 or 385 elsewhere around Inverclyde.

Plenty of options anyway.

It was mentioned in the Barrhead/EK electrification thread that a 4-car 380 has already been set aside for the Barrhead terminator diagram, made spare through the May changes to Ayrshire/Inverclyde services. No further stock adjustments required.
