Indeed which is why I explained that Network Rail should offer as a minimum a hourly path in both directions between Newark Castle and Lincoln and it's up to the TOC in this case East Midlands Railway to provide a service that takes full advantage of it and not have both provide a service which is poor with gaps of up to 3 hours between trains which is unacceptable.

I be interested to hear why if such paths are available then what is stopping EMR from using them????
According to the published NR timetable the Nottingham to Lincoln service is approximately hourly throughout the day. Have I missed something?

From rough Google Maps measuring you might be able to build a ramp as steep as Reading westbound to the east of the WCML fast lines without blocking them (or at least put the pillars in and most of the decks) as the houses drift away a bit. Need to demolish the houses on the Wigan road to the east of the bridge. Then bring the fast lines down again before the M6.
its a tight site though, and the locals aren’t going to like the visuals or the increased noise from having all the fast trains up higher.
Would be great deal easier to increase the line speed on the Slow lines and send all Manchester services on the Fasts, with all Avanti services on the Slow lines

I reckon to do it you'd have to:

1) Realign the Fast Lines and Bolton line junction to the East (probably with the effect of moving the junction northwards as a result with 6 tracks over Wigan Rd bridge) to create a "wideway" between the Slow and Fast lines from just south of the junction to the M6 bridge. A bit like what is being done at Werrington.

2) Use this wideway to create the Fast Line "ramp" to the south, and fly it over the top of the realigned Bolton tracks and land it on the east side just before the M6 (with the Bolton tracks switching back to the current Fast track formation on the meantime with crossovers to the slows before the Fast lines join in.

But probably still quite heroic to get the Fasts up and down again in the length available.

Just shoves the crossing moves to Preston instead.

They still need to swap over to get to Blackpool and which services will you be putting the freights in front of? And the Colne and Ormskirk slows will pop out in front of the Avantis too!

Well seeing as at the moment you have:

06:53 Nottingham to Peterborough
08:12 Worksop to Lincoln Central
09:28 Leicester to Lincoln Central
10:29 Leicester to Lincoln Central
12:29 Leicester to Lincoln Central
14:29 Leicester to Lincoln Central
16:27 Leicester to Sleaford
17:26 Nottingham to Lincoln Central
18:17 Leicester to Lincoln Central

That is not a clockface hourly timetable as there's a 2 hour gap in a service being provided from 10:29 to 16:27 which isn't acceptable, if a hourly service was provided then there wouldn't be a 2 hour gap in the timetable at all.

That's the reduced service during the Chinavirus pandemic. The full service has a near hourly service and an extra at 1750.
