I'm sure it'll end up being painted white sooner than later - while it looks like brutalist at the moment, the use of Concrete has obviously been chosen to help it 'blend' in a little with the rest of the Southern's 1930 concrete Art Deco-ness. (sympathetically as you say!)
I think it’ll also look a lot different with the replica platform canopy to match the original reinstated, at the very least it’ll break up the large flat area in the first and last pictures.

Completion date is shown on a poster at the station as November 2022, so I think it's running very late as there looks like a lot left to do. It also says that the concrete panels are sourced from Ireland!

The concrete structures are from Shay Murtagh Precast, I think they have done a lot of prefabricated structures for Network Rail and TfL or their contractors, eg all that Dawlish sea wall stuff over the last few years, Reading Viaduct, and many other bridge beams and associated components. Surbiton will probably be a fairly small scale diversion for them...

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.

Further progress since that originally outlined in post 27. It appears the major panel works are nearly done with the new structure is pretty much connected to the rest of the building.

I'd say there's a decent chance of meeting the estimated completion date.

It’s moving along nicely, being painted white, too. But there’s a lot of work to do to link it to the existing structures.

Seems unusual that those stub girders, (assumed to be for the replacement canopy supports), appear to be welded onto plates set into what originally looked to be a normal concrete beam. Same with the larger concrete panels to the left of the picture. Perhaps it’s a common technique in situations like this, I don’t recall seeing it before, but maybe it’s usually hidden out of sight in finished works.

Yes, cast-in plates are quite common, but are often concealed by cladding or other finishes.

Now confirmed that the project will slip into December for the purposes of pointing, roof and window installation. Other than the roof the main structural elements appear to be complete.

Excellent. Right now I'm stood at the same spot as you were. Looks like it'll be a lot of work to complete the roof on the staircase structure.
Indeed - they seem to be making steady, if undramatic, progress. The canopy supports have at least now been completed. I noticed a team of about 8 on the job yesterday afternoon.

Well, the project has clearly slipped into January, and looks as though it'll be at February at the current rate of progress...

Here are a few photographs taken yesterday.

The new staircase is pretty much complete (except for lighting) and the platform has been resurfaced with a new yellow line painted.

The new awning is almost finished on platform 4, with glazing and the fascia completed.

The awning on platform 3 still needs glazing bars, glazing and the fascia inserted along the front. The lighting needs to be finished, too.

This is now open, as of 4pm yesterday, according to the chap from SWR at the top of the stairs when I ceremonially walked up at 4.29pm.
They only have budget for it to be open 4-8pm weekdays, and he remarked that most trains were too short for it to be much use, as passengers won't walk back on themselves to access it. Nevertheless, I expect when a 12 coach Basingstoke/Guildford arrives on p3 at the same time as an 8 coach Guildford/Woking/Hampton Court on p4, that the down platforms will be much more pleasant places to be.
Skylights are currently still temporary and due to be replaced.

So, some more pictures (though sadly I could not coincide with the limited opening times).

In order:

The new staircase, completed; a view of the platform - still a lot of tidying up to do. The whole station is having a repaint (the pink is masking tape - I did a double-take at first); the new gate line in the southern entrance at the top of the stairs from the platform; the new public footbridge stairs, which also access the new gate line. (The original entrance to all the platforms is to the left, which remains in use.) View across to platforms 3 and 4 - a bit of the awning is still left to finish (now completed).

The last picture (added.13-4-23) is of the skylight to the stairs from the platform - it looks as though the glazing is temporary (and it certainly leaks when it rains).
