455854 is back in service for the first time in over 3 months;

As indicated by "WarrenTManager" in #73, 455905 has returned to service

On the down side, there are a few units that appear to have been out of use for nearly a month

455850 (10/11)
455864 (10/11)
455910 (11/11)
456004 (08/11)
456007 (11/11)

but perhaps it is too early to describe these units as long term out of use?

Thanks for this.

I believe the SW 455s are the only NR stock remaining to have destination display blinds instead of LED displays?

(Unless you are revoltingly pedantic and include the EMR 153s to be withdrawn this week and the single remaining non PRM-lite 153/9)

There is some shuffling around of stock in the new timetable next week to attempt to alleviate some of the Suburban stock shortages. Some mainline 450 services go down from 12 to 8 coaches, with the displaced 450s used on Reading and Windsor diagrams. The use of 450s on Windsor diagrams should then free up some 455s to reduce the number of short formations on the Mainline side.

I've noticed 458522 is now 'long term out of use' in the latest update. Can anyone give a current location and further details regarding this unit please?
Thanks in advance for any information

but perhaps it is too early to describe these units as long term out of use?
All those are stopped for scheduled exams. 5864 and 6007 currently over the pits in progress, the others waiting their turn.

8522 was waiting a wheelset. It has arrived. It just needs a slot in the lift shop timetable for fitting. It's hidden behind 5704 currently on 21RD in the Engineers sidings at the Park so you can't see it.

Makes perfect sense. Reading services are already around 40% 450 on weekdays and could currently probably get away with 100% if the capacity of the 458/5s are needed elsewhere.

Cheers saves me making an unnecessary visit back to WD. Top advice as always.

A post on Twitter implies that Allelys will be road hauling 2 units to Long Marston. I’ll try and find the tweet.

Daft question:
With 6 456's out of action, why have they not taken a working DMSO from one unit and connected it to a working DSO of another? Surely out of the 12 coaches, SWR can cobble together at least 2 working units?

Thanks @swr444 Either SWR expect to fix/approve the 701's and train enough drivers to be able to operate them inside 2 months or we are going to be very short on units!

You never know, SWR could be hedging their bets that there will be another lockdown in Feb and no one will be using the railway to notice. Sorry did I say SWR, I mean DFT.
Plan B should help in the short term.

4 8 car 450s transferred over to the Windsor side from today. 3 on Windsor’s and 1 extra on reading services.

It did seem silly running 12s around on Alton’s, Basingstoke’s and Pompeys off peak however the drop in capacity during PM rush hour won’t be appreciated.

450s on Windsor’s is an odd choice, especially with the amount of stations they call at, and their door cycle not being the quickest.

Until the 707s were introduced they were the standard stock on Windsor services and they're used extensively on Hounslow loop and Weybridge services which have even more frequent stops.

I don’t suppose they’ll be re-arranging the interiors and binning first class this time though… :D

I was going to say the same, the Windsors are better to have the 450s as it's a "semi-fast" service, and to keep the 458s mainly on the weybridge/hounslow services as the doors are much quicker with all the stops that they have.

I was on 458531 on Saturday from London Waterloo to Reading. It didn't run very well and kept stalling.
