3 of the 11 units operate the Salisbury > Romsey > Southampton > Eastleigh > Romsey figure of six route.

1 operates the Brockenhurst > Lymington Pier service on Mondays to Fridays.

Others strengthen West of England (London Waterloo > Basingstoke > Salisbury > Yeovil > Exeter) services.

The most frequent route is half hourly Waterloo-Salisbury via Basingstoke (I think approximately 1tph continues to Exeter St. Davids with others terminating at Crewkerne, Yeovil Junction and Gillingham, and four trains per day split at Salisbury with the rear portion going to Bristol Temple Meads.)

Failing that, you have Brockenhurst to Lymington (although this is usually a 450 on weekends, I believe) plus the Salisbury/Romsey/Southampton figure-of-six service. Both of these use single two-car 158s in normal service.

10 car surely - 12x23m won't fit the platforms (some needed lengthening for 10car formations

Also most of the West of England Main line services are 159 operated. 158s usually do the locals and strengthening

The above info is all very well, but on Saturdays as per the original request the current diagrams (as from May 2010) only have three 158s in use, the three used on the Salisbury to Romseys. Same on Sundays. So there seems little point in a special visit to see them at the weekend.

During the week you'd need to get around a bit, although Salisbury would see most of the 8 in use at some stage there's a couple which don't get there, the Lymington shuttle and another that runs from and back to Fratton on services within South Hants.

However there are now NO 158s normally diagrammed on SWT services beyond Salisbury, either to Bristol or Exeter.

The above doesn't include the FGW daily loan unit, I haven't any current info about that one.

Correct, and even then there is only one 10 car service to and from Waterloo in the morning peak.

FGW hire in unit is still the same diagram as always. Works on the Swindon-Cheltenham shuttles all day.

Doesn't or at least didn't over the summer operate on the Swindon-Cheltenham services on a Saturday. Works this diagram instead:
2E16 0603 Salisbury-Gloucester (To Westbury)
2O03 0703 Westbury-Southampton Central
2M97 0827 Southampton Central-Worcester Foregate Street
2O90 1240 Worcester Foregate Street-Weymouth
2V93 1728 Weymouth-Bristol Temple Meads
1O86 2223 Bristol Temple Meads-Salisbury (SWT Service; coupled to a 159)

I've seen SWT 158s through Warminster on weekdays operating the Gt Malvern runs on occasion and also coupled to an FGW 3 car 158.

Yeh, the hire in unit can run an alternative diagram on weekdays but it usually is on the Swindon-Cheltenham shuttles. In the summer on Saturdays the SWT 158 was booked to attach to a 3 Car FGW 158 for the trip to Weymouth.
