Yes, there are 4 Merseyrail trains per hour 0700-1900 between Chester and Liverpool, but every time I make the journey the Merseyrail train seems to depart one minute before the Llandudno train arrives!
In the other direction it’s quite a trek from platform 7 to the Welsh end of platform 3B! With the added issue that invariably 2 car train from platform 3B is likely to be already very busy on arrival at Chester
I made the trip yesterday and sampled Merseyrail’s new 777 units for the first time. Quite impressed, ideal for local commuter journeys. but with stations every 2 minutes it feels as though it takes an age to get to Liverpool.
Plus, they get extremely busy and the clientele can be, let’s say, interesting….!
But, if we are to encourage modal shift by taking some cars off the congested A55/M56/Mersey Tunnel then only the operation of direct through trains from north Wales coast to Liverpool will have any chance of achieving this.
