When Dove Holes Tunnel is mentioned I often think of a railway colleague of my Dads who used to be a Nottingham based Fireman towards the end of steam.
He often said, that of all the tunnels on the route he worked, Dove Holes seemed to have a disconcerting tendancy for the entrance to often not appear to be getting any bigger as they headed towards it.
I thought of that again a couple of weeks ago when watching a recent Don Coffey contribution on YouTube which covered that route.
Is that a relatively common phenomena? Or is there an unusual perspective at Dove Holes, perhaps arising from the fairly tight rock cutting on the approach?
