Thing is, that other than the stupid, stupid email idea he was suprisingly sensible on the show- though this was possibly helped by, for once, being interviewed by someone who didn't start from a position of wanting to put his on a stick on the walls of the Tower of London.
It's a shame. He should know by now that the media will seize upon any opportunity to discredit him.
Stupid idea though, would be a good gesture if he gave up some of his pay although the deficit can only be reduced effectively by clamping down on tax avoidance. You can't go after the poor because they only have so much they can give before being bled dry.

the poor ................. only have so much they can give before being bled dry
Did the maths today, and it'd be surprisingly effective. Assuming it's 1p per email, and because of this the numbers of emails sent halve, it'd still wipe away ~27% of the deficit in a year.
Of course, that's the theory. It'd never work in practice.
I think a 1p tax on texts actually sounds like not a bad idea, every little would help! I must be missing something though, it couldn't be as simple as that, could it? Pardon my ignorance by the way.
