The Forum was launched twenty years ago yesterday (we all got distracted so missed the actual day ) on 6 June 2005 and we just wanted to thank everyone over the two decades the Forum has been in existence for their contributions little and large over that time which have taken the Forum from strength to strength and have it still after all this time be the largest site for discussion of UK railway topics of all sorts (but of course in particular fares, as well as jobs & careers!).

Here's to twenty more years! <:D

What's that abomination of a train in the image on the first post!

Is there is copy of the first set of threads anywhere?

Happy 20th Birthday to the Forum.

Plus thanks to all the efforts of the staff and contributors who make this a rewarding place to watch and get involved.

This is thread 2. Thread 1 isn't available.
and this is thread 4. Thread 3 isn't available.

Personally, one of the great things is that the old posts don't get deleted so you can look back at historic discussions and see what actually evolved in due course. I hope it remains that way.

Thanks all :)

I did offer to change it using Photoshop, however I was overruled, as it was pointed out to me that we could see who would be the first to complain about it; congratulations! ;)

However, there is no prize for that :p

Happy birthday to the forum! It's almost as old as I am, and still stands strong.

Fantastic. Congratulations and many thanks to you all for providing us with such a wonderful outlet for our musings, a reliable source of information, and above all a community to be part of. Here's to many more years!

A moment of reflection.

Another well known railway related forum turns twenty this year. RMWeb also launched in 2005 and continues to be an invaluable source of information, just like Rail UK Forums.
RMWeb''s founder, Andy York, sadly passed away just over two months ago.

So I'd like to thank the Rail UK Forum staff, present and past. We often don't realise how much you all do, for the success of this forum. Long may it continue.

How many original members from 2005 are still active?
A reasonable number - I don't use my original account because it literally had my name in it and I don't want to push my luck too far with the social media policy of my employer

I've met some nice people through this forum over the years.

Happy 20 years and well done to those who keep it going.
