More to do with spelling than grammar, but I’m sure you get what I mean…

A council has promised it "must try harder" after misspelling a leading school as a "grammer".
Headmaster Chris Pyle spotted the error on a new bus stop sign outside Lancaster Royal Grammar School (LRGS).
"We are enjoying the irony," said Dr Pyle, "but will keep on trying to teach the world how to spell 'grammar' correctly."
Lancashire County Council said the "schoolboy error" would be corrected over the coming days.
Dr Pyle said: "The new sign has definitely brought some laughter.
"Teachers are used to correcting spelling mistakes, and both pupils and teachers have enjoyed seeing this real world example on our doorstep."
A spokesman for the local authority said: "The irony of this unfortunate spelling error is not lost on the county council.
"This schoolboy error does certainly not meet Lancaster Grammar's exceptionally high standards.
"Rest assured, we will correct this mistake and replace the bus stop plates over the coming days."
He added: "We're glad people have been able to see the funny side and would like to reassure everyone that we will try harder in the future."

I found this quite funny on the Daily Mail online, considering the copious quantities of spelling and grammar mistakes in their articles.

Carousel once had destination displays programmed for "Chesham Grammer School," I am not sure if they fixed it or if it is simply no longer used since the 1 was cut back to The Broadway.

I am absolutely appalled at the gender bias shown in the use of the expression "schoolboy error" by Lancashire County Council.

The implication that errors are only made by boys is completely unfounded and highlights the belittling of boys by Lancashire County Council.

Perhaps, the sign producers were just in the market for some new high quality German seating? They do bus seats too!

Not mentioned in the article, but LRGS was/is an all boys school (sixth form is now co-educational in a slight concession to the modern world) - Lancaster Girls Grammar School is on the other side of town.

Wonder why LCC felt the need to change the sign from Lancaster RGS/Melrose Street which is what it was named when I was at school there.

Pity they didn't donate that sign to the school's English department. I know a few teachers who would have loved something like that in the classroom.

It was said tongue in cheek but if the wording had been schoolgirl error then how much air time would the BBC ITV and the other channels given it? Mind you if I was an ambulance chasing lawyer imagine filing a no win no fee claims action on behalf of all the parents of the boys at LRGS against LCC.
