The replacement is the "Knowledgebase" part of the NRE site, but there's still a lot of content to be transferred across.

The good news is that no login is required for the new site...The bad news is that access is restricted by IP address.

Indeed, there is a notice on the homepage of 'The Manual' (news section) explaining that National Rail Enquiries (internal) Knowledgebase (abbreviated to iKB) will take over, though the way I read it, it seemed as if they were not sure if iKB would be ready in time...

Lets hope the Knowledgebase is updated more regularly than the rest of the site - or is there a chance this may improve the updating of the rest of the site.

I'm still waiting for them to update the map of Kings Cross station which still shows the now demolished area and all its shops, departure boards and toilets. They've all been closed for some time now and it's hardly a minor station in the back of beyond.

Apparently they're currently in the process of gathering updated information about stations - I have also mentioned to them some ticket machines that have been in place for more than 5 years but are not yet mentioned on SME.

Much of it has now appeared on NRE Knowledgebase. The excess fares section has been tidied up a bit so it's easier to follow.

Whilst we are on the subject, is there any progress on the plan to put this information into the public domain? I recall that the Manual was supposed to be going into the public domain at some point last year, is it likely that the Knowledgebase will go public instead?

Of course anyone who is legitimately accessing The Manual will continue to have access to it after today.

Not necessarily.

I would say I have legitimate access as a Train Guard who likes access to ticketing information. I access it via my mobile phone when out and about and sometimes for research at home. Now I can't.

We have no company computer access and do not get supplied any regular, timely or relevant fares and product updates from the company either.

And Lo! The Manual is no more. Access it now and you get a 404 error.

I hope they've done a better job of copying stuff across to iKB than they had earlier in the week, but I suspect not.

For example, in The Manual there were dedicated pages for Warrants and a separate one for MoD Warrants.

On the "Payment" page on the National Rail site (and iKB) this has been reduced to a single line: "Company or MoD warrants are accepted in accordance with the instructions supplied by the department or organisation where you obtained the warrant."

Not particularly helpful...

I'd suggest feeding back directly to ATOC. I have a couple of points to make myself.

and they wonder why a lot of guards will pass anything with correct date !!!

Accessed The Manual replacement today for the first time, very hard to navigate to what you want, seems as bad as public national rail site to me !

Had occasion to try the "Fares Finder" today. Doesn't recognise NLCs for Boundary Zones or London Zonal destinations...

And now had cause to need to refer to NFM16 for historical fares, so duly followed the link from the Fares Finder and was presented with PDFs of what would have been Sections B and C of the printed NFM volumes if they were still published. Searching through a 2600 page PDF for a specific fare is not fun!

For the benefit of those who've got access to iKB, there's a "Feedback" link on the index page which'll give you an e-mail address to detail your issues to.

Whether the missing content will be reinstated remains to be seen, however...
