There was far more coverage of the sighting difficulties with SN109 than of Thames Trains's recruitment and training procedures.

This may all be so, but Thames Trains was actually convicted and fined £2m for health and safety offences which I believe were related to the deficiencies in their training programme.

As the most dangerous approaches to stations can I add two now closed stations...

Ilfracombe.. Approached at the end of a long 1 in 37 downward hill.

Folkestone Harbour.. Similar to Ilfracombe. Approached at the end of a mile long down hill section of about 1 in 37. Just before the station was a level crossing.

I have heard of at least one instance in which a train, with an MLV leading I believe, stopped just six inches from the end at Folkestone Harbour once...
