After visiting the area that John Betjaman featured in his programme "Metroland", we then board 2C29, the 1149 Chiltern Railway service to London Marylebone, which arrives at 1205 in London on Friday just in time for a spot of lunch.

We admire St Alphege's church and note "soily" hill upon which it stands, and explore the town.
We then board the 1703 NTWM service 966 to Erdington, but alight at the National Exhibition Centre and walk to Birmingham International Station, as we want to go to Coventry. Fortunately, we just make the 1740 VT from Birmingham International, and arrive at Coventry at 1749.

Void. You may only use one service each post.

My apologies, Zoe.
In which case we stay a little longer in St Alphege's church, before catching the 1803 TWM Service 37 to Acock's Green.

This posting was made prior to the previous amendments to the last posting which ended in Coventry and from which this led on.

Time to visit both the new and the ruined Cathedrals and to partake of some well needed refresments before returning to the station to board the 1925 XC service to Bournemouth that arrives at 2216 on Friday night.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This posting is to replace the posting above to keep matters logical after the amendements

Thwarted in our intended visit to the genteel South-Coast resort, it is from Acocks Green station we depart from on the 1944 LM service to Worcester Shrub Hill, arriving there at 2027 on Friday night

We are really tired, so we book into a hotel and ask for a 0500 early morning alarm call and a packed lunch to be ready for the time of departure. We wake refreshed, call at reception and pay our bill and collect the packed lunch and return to Gloucester station where we board the 0544 FGW service to Swindon which arrives there at 0632 on Saturday morning

Note for future postings...the next two days are to be treated as a normal Saturday and Sunday for this quiz, per instructions from Zoe

I was going to treat it as a normal Saturday and Sunday anyway! Too complicated fishing out the Crimbo timetable!

After a jolly morning in Swindon, we head back to the station and catch 1A15, the 1211 First Great Western service to London Paddington, which arrives exactly an hour later at 1311 on Saturday afternoon.

Paddington station is a place to visit in its own right and we spend nearly an hour in its confines, finding time for a snack and a drink. Remembering our recently "thwarted" visit to the Channel coast at Bournemouth, we decide to head even further south and we board the 1406 FGW service to Penzance that arrives at 1924 on Saturday night.

Well by the time we get to Penzance, it'll be pitch black, so all we can do take pictures of 1V58, 1V60 and 1V62 pulling in from Scotland. Then we go to bed.

In the morning we catch 1S51, the 0930 CrossCountry service to St Erth, arriving at 0937 ready for a connection to St Ives on Sunday morning.

Oh really? What a shame! I didn't realise that! We spend a few hours at Exeter before heading on 1V57, the 1714 CrossCountry service to Paignton, which arrives at 1756 on Sunday evening.

There is much to see at Paignton, even on Sunday evening and we find a good restaurant for a meal. Suitably refreshed and the "inner-man" well filled, we make our way to Stand C at Paignton Bus Station where we board the 2021 X80 First Devon and Cornwall bus to Plymouth where we disembark at 2149 in the centre on Sunday night.

We then have a drink in the local pub before boarding 1A40, the 2320 First Great Western Night Riviera service to London Paddington, which arrives at 0505 early Monday morning.

Even at such an early hour of the day, people are making their way around London Paddington station and we decide to take things easy for a while and read our railway magazines that we have purchased there, whilst having a "breakfast of sorts". We feel much refreshed by the break and make our way to the 0742 FGW service to Didcot Parkway that arrives at 0823 on Monday morning. (Shall we see how many GWR steam engines we can see at Didcot Railway Centre).

Good idea Paul! After all, we are allowed to stay on board until 0700.

We have loads of fun at Didcot, photographing several steam engines. My grandfather used to work for the GWR, he's 88 now, he has wonderful memories.

After that, we head on 1B25, the 1138 First Great Western service to Swansea, which arrives at 1344 on Monday afternoon.

We wonder what Swansea was like when the area had no less than seven stations towards the end of the 1890 - 1900 period and like Manchester Victoria, the station we are at once possessed a fish dock. Still, whilst we do not have time to visit the castle, the station itself is interesting and time flies by until it is time to return to the nearest station to where we live that is served by ATW, so we board the 1455 ATW service to Wilmslow that arrives there at 1848 on Monday evening.
