A late start by my standards; I left the house at 10:00, making my way on to the platform just as the semi fast Manchester train went through. 10 minutes later my first train of the day arrived, the 10:25 Smithy Bridge-Manchester Victoria, formed by 142068.

One uneventful journey later I arrived in Manchester, just 1 minute early. My next journey took my onto the 11:00 Manchester Victoria-Clitheroe, formed by 142012 to Salford Crescent. This is my first visit to Salford Crescent since its rebuilding which is progressing nicely. After waiting just over 10 minutes, 156471 & 156486 arrived working the 11:26 Salford-Manchester Airport. Another 15 wait, this time at the Airport, I boarded 323228 for the journey down to Crewe.

My next move is the main reason for the trip, a diverted Virgin service formed by 221109 &221143. Good progress is made through Manchester before catching up the Wigan stopper at Farnsworth. We arrive at Preston 2 minute early meaning, just a faction too late to catch the Hazel Grove service back. Instead I go for the York service formed by 158910, connecting at Hebden Bridge for the 16:08 back to Smithy Bridge

10:25 Smithy Bridge - Manchester Victoria 142068
11:00 Manchester Victoria - Salford Crescent 142012
11:26 Salford Crescent - Manchester Airport 156471/156486
12:11 Manchester Airport - Crewe 323228
13:09 Crewe - Preston 221109/221143
14:54 Preston - Hebden Bridge 158910
16:08 Hebden Bridge - Smithy Bridge 144003

Cheers

London Midland Great Escape

Only on Monday did my Dad inform me that he had a Great Escape Voucher, and upon asking where he wanted to go, his reply was “Stourbridge”. So we set off at 08:40 to drive to Runcorn (from Rochdale) aiming for the 09:52 departure for Birmingham. That idea went out the window due to the stop/start nature of the M62 which meant we didn’t arrive until 10:00. With tickets purchased we boarded the 10:25 Birmingham New Street, formed by 350104, arriving at Smethwick GB 4 minutes late at 11:44.

Next move was from Smethwick to Stourbridge Junction, the 11:53 departure formed by 172333. After a quick run-down and back to Stourbridge Town on board 139001, we boarded the 12:33 to Kidderminster formed by 172337 followed by the 12:50 Kidderminster-Worcester FG formed by 172213&172217

At Worcester, whiles waiting the 13:24 to Birmingham, it was announced that this service would be departing off platform 1 and would be diverted via Worcester SH. At that point 150105 came around the corner for the service to Birmingham. Just after departure the Conductor told everyone that at Worcester SH we would be changing train due to a Train fault. At Shrub Hill 150105 was shunted in the middle road and 172331 was shunted in to form the service up to Birmingham. It turned out that 150105 had an engine out so therefore couldn’t tackle Lickey Incline and the conductor didn’t sign via Stourbridge. The service finally left 16 minutes late before arriving only 6 minutes late into New Street (or 11 down on the WTT)

After a quick sandwich stop the final train of the day went to 350236 on the 14:36 Birmingham-Runcorn.

So that's what happened to 150105 that day, I had gone out in the afternoon hoping for it to discover it had gone kaput earlier in the day. It was still sat on the Through Siding at 1820!

Just found your thread, can't sleep so looking at trip reports instead!
