I would like to buy an off-peak return from London to Ledbury. My preferred route is via Birmingham, which seems to be a permitted alternative route to the GWR service during the closure of Nuneham viaduct. But how do I buy a ticket for the direct route - I think the restriction is 'via Evesham'? If I go to the journey planner there are no journeys offered via Oxford and the Birmingham route is more expensive than usual.

All the direct GWR routes would have been taken off systems by now. Are you sure there are no journeys changing at Oxford with Chiltern? What date are you looking for?

Ah, if I force it to go via Oxford I get a Chiltern option. Is a ticket from Marylebone the same ticket as I'd usually get from Paddington? I wouldn't want to actually travel via Chiltern because it's a lot slower. Travel would be off-peak this Friday afternoon, returning on Saturday.

The ticket is issued from London Terminals so should be no problem even at Euston.

GWR are still running one direct Ledbury train (via Cheltenham) at 1730 from Paddington.

This is exactly the query I was going to post. Travelling Worcester - Paddington but all the usual tickets have been removed.

Forcing it via Oxford (thanks to the posts above) shows a slightly pricier ticket which gives the Network Railcard discount. I'd use this ticket to travel via Birmingham New Street to Euston via the permitted alternative route.

How is super off-peak defined when using Avanti and West Midlands/XC instead of travelling direct with GWR? Do the original restriction times (GP) apply as stated there regardless of the fact the journey will take longer via the alternative route anyway? So for the return leg from Euston to Birmingham, I'd still have to depart after 19:01?

If you're relying on the ticket acceptance as currently written, it's simply the same times as it would be usually.

If you'd bought the ticket before the closure were announced you could have argued for an earlier departure to meet your scheduled arrival time.
