I have been looking at tickets from Barrow-in-Fruness, Cumbria to Helsby, Cheshire.

The route generally is BiF to Lancaster/Preston on Transpennine, Virgin to Warrington and Arriva Wales to Helsby.

Travelling from Barrow to Helsby I have found fares for £6.50 travelling after 6pm booking 48hours ahead, but cannot find anything close for the return leg (circa £35-40).

Does this seem like a glitch in the fares?

Thanks for any advice,
Chris

Hi and welcome.

It is not a glitch. The £6.50 fare would be an Advance fare which is quota-controlled and sold subject to availability. You must travel on your booked service (plus applicable connecting services) with this fare.

The circa £35.40 fare is the flexible Anytime Day Single fare which can be purchased at any time and gives you complete flexibility in taking any service along permitted routes.

Helsby, I would like to send you a PM but I believe you need to make 5 posts or more before I can give you a perhaps useful tip on one half of your journey. Someone can confirm my advice... :)
