Ticket Validity. London Midland - Virgin Trains

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

Wish to go from Rugeley Town to Birmingham International.

Suggested trains on London Midland website say London Midland to Birmingham New Street, then Virgin Trains to Birmingham International (and vice-versa for return).

However, are London Midland tickets valid on Virgin Trains?

Tickets from Rugeley Town to Birmingham International are valid on any train operating company, even if you buy them from London Midland's website

I was puzzled as quite often I've been at New Street when a Virgin Trains London Euston train has been announced and the announcer has said 'London Midland tickets are not valid on this service'.

Some routes have tickets available with an operator restriction, e.g. London Midland sell cheaper London-Birmingham tickets that are only valid on their trains. This will state on the ticket "LM Only" or similar. Virgin sell cheaper tickets New Street-International/Coventry that are only valid on their trains, these say "Virgin Trains Only" or similar.

Most routes only have one ticket available, "any permitted". As the name implies, you can take any train you want (valid for the route) with that ticket.

The only tickets for Rugeley to Birmingham International are "any permitted"; you can use Virgin, XC, LM or Arriva between New Street and International.
