Tickets to/from Blackpool North and South

Are tickets to Blackpool North and South interchangeable (from stations beyond Kirkham and Wesham)?

If yes, any official documentation to support it or does it depend on the guard/conductor?

Has anyone on here tried this?

A 2013 thread would suggest no, not officially, but yes, often in practice.

That remains my understanding also. Officially no but often in practice yes.

I asked Northern this on Twitter a while ago. Their answer was yes but if fares to North and South are different, you need to have paid the higher fare (or an excess).

That's probably the most sensible answer they could have given.

There really should be a 'Blackpool Stns' station grouping, and there is no sensible reason for there not to be. My understanding is that the only reason it doesn't exist is probably for accounting purposes

Given the reputation of the Blackpool North barrier staff, I'd be a bit nervous about approaching them with a ticket to Blackpool South.....
