Timetable poster replacement

To my mind farcical new "timetable" posters on the H&C/Circle (not sure if elsewhere).
They have removed the first and last trains etc and replaced with a QR code.
As this new poster takes up exactly the same space...
WHY!!!???
(To eventually get rid altogether and sell as advertising space...?)

Quite. It has even been discussed on the internal TfL social media site Viva Engage (with the same sentiment of disbelief to be honest.)

Given how often first and last trains times are requested on stations, I'm confident staff will just have to download the times on their ipads anyway. I used to take a photo of the poster :D

I suspect it's easier to update a QR code on the "backend" for timetable changes, thereby reducing the need to print a new poster each time.

Yet another backwards step.

Cheers for your reply.
Glad I'm not on my own! :)

Seems like a backwards step, except for the fact that now the poster doesn't need to be replaced unless it's damaged (assuming the QR code goes to a website, it could be raw text but that'd be stupid).

Just seems bonkers as the posters only get replaced once a year(?) yet there's a new poster every week for engineering work and where needed other one-offs.

It is to save £25k to £30k a year apparently. At the station I work, this is very frustrating for staff and passengers because where the notice is on the platform, you can't get a mobile signal on some networks. I have downloaded the Amersham and Watford timetables onto my I Pad, but this takes longer than looking at a poster.

Ridiculous that these are being removed from the Met north of Harrow on the Hill as well. These are very handy in the rush hour. Perhaps there may be a case for an exemption here.

Totally bonkers to remove first and last trains in general anyway across the network.

I just want something I can turn to and look at. Not some rigmarole requiring me to stand still, get my mobille out, a mobile connection and data - oh and a smart phone.

I found this to be a right pain today when trying to get a Piccadilly Line train from Uxbridge. A service that only runs every 20 minutes *needs* a displayed timetable.
