Considering what's my best ticket/route option here for a trip in August departing Friday, returning Monday (so not booking for a while yet) and whether a split-ticket would work out cheaper. I have a NSE railcard but that's obviously not going to be much use for a lot of the journey.

Ruling out the sleeper but would be nice to go 1st class if possible as I normally do on anything over 3hrs (if direct). Flexible on times as I'll have whole day to travel.

You could go on SWT to Exeter.

A SVR (trains arriving London after 0959) Tonbridge - EXD route London Honiton is £58.70.

Advances may be cheaper.

Thanks might consider this route on the return leg for a change of scenery if there's a cheapish 1st advance when the time comes.
