Just saw Tornado go past Cowley Bridge with the whistle going constantly and I can still hear it as it disappears into the distance. Is it stuck!?

It was stuck. It stopped at Tiverton Parkway and a member of the train crew fixed it.

"It isn't wrong" murmured Henry to no one in particular. "But we just don't do it". ;)

Can't have been. I'd have heard it from my house in Torquay, which is within earshot of the railway. I didn't hear the train pass at all, unusual for a steam special but perhaps the crew were deliberately holding off using the whistle excessively going through stations etc because there was already a problem known? I'd been out earlier to film arrival and shunting at Kingswear.

In the time honoured tradition of whacking it with a hammer?

I knew a splendid rolling stock man at Ipswich who had a jammed whistle on a Brittania class (back n the 1950's) - despite the disorientation of the sound as he climbed up with the standard no 1 item (a club hammer) - he belted it and said whistle shot off into the undergrowth near the north end of the tunnel.

Could not be found - maybe Time Team ought to have a dig for it ...(with full safety precautions of course)
