On the TPE app you can now see how busy the carriages are on TPE trains, if you go to 'live times' on the app and search for a TPE train. Am guessing this is new for TPE trains
It's fairly useful if nothing else to show the formation.
It's unclear which services do or do not show it though, or where the data comes from.
Some of the data seema rather optimistic.
This is how XC do it on Turbostars, and in my experience it causes nothing but trouble. If the XC system is bad, this is worse, since anybody sitting there will not know if the seat has been reserved until someone comes up to claim it. Much potential for conflicts there.
I've noticed that they have had the passenger counting equipment replaced. Some units seem to have it provided at gangways between the carriages.Nova 2 and 3 have passengers counting systems giving real time information back to TPE. I’m told it was mandated to both TPE and Northern by the DFT for a more accurate distribution of fare money to the TOCs and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s started to be fitted to 185.
Sounds like they have gone with the Acorel system fitted to the CAF trainsI've noticed that they have had the passenger counting equipment replaced. Some units seem to have it provided at gangways between the carriages.

They mostly do that anyway, but it would be really useful if they actually got it right! My last experience was the 1727 Stansted to Birmingham shown incorrectly at Peterborough 10 days ago (XC at fault.)Never mind all this nonsense - just tell passengers waiting on the platform whether coach A is at the front or the back.

The Acorel system works in the same way as the system in the link.
Never happens on TPE. You have to peer through the gloom looking for the little flash of yellow to figure it out for yourself. They mostly do that anyway, but it would be really useful if they actually got it right!
